We had a bit of a night out tonight. More like an hour out, but it was very nice! We went to the Buffet (yes, the very one I worked at summers during and over winter intercession during college) with our Camper, Mom and Dad, me and another wee family friend that my Mom is hanging out with whilst her parents are on vacay. Camper was a jewel for the entire hour, very helpful, only to freak out when we got him home because it was his bedtime. We probably should have gotten him in his pjs before we left. Live and learn. For all who are interested, lots of cute new pics of him over at his site. If you don’t know where it is, shoot me an email and I’ll hook you up.
Other than that we’ve just been hanging out today. I’ve done some light cleaning in Bubby’s room, but he’ s been a bit fussy so honestly…there’s been more cuddling than anything else. I get frustrated that I can’t do other things when he needs all of my attention, but I’m trying to remember that soon he’ll be too busy for me, so I should love his cuddles while he’s willing to give them to me. My favorite thing he’s doing lately is planting his lips on my cheek and just breathing. He thinks he’s giving kisses. Or trying to turn my head into a teething ring. Either way, it’s pretty cute. He’s also “razzing,” also know as fluburtzing, also known as rasberrying. When he’d done eating his cereal he’ll puff his cheeks out and go, “brrrppttttt.” Ok. I have no idea what letters could be combined to help you understand the noise he makes. So you’ll just have to use your imagination.
Do you want to know the MOST HORRIBLE thing I’ve read lately? I was looking in What to Expect, the First Year for random things I might have missed my first time through the 4 month chapter…and I found an entire section on breastfeeding. Apparently, by the time a baby is four months old parents can go a little stir crazy and want a night out. How does WTE encourage you to accomplish this? Well, you can always hire a sitter to follow you around (i.e. sit in the mall with the baby while you go to a movie) which seemed impractical to me, but not horrible. BUT THEN, it said to leave a bottle of pumped milk behind and instruct the babysitter to try to get the baby to go back to sleep if he won’t take the bottle. So the baby is crying, hungry, doesn’t know how to eat from a bottle…and the babysitter is just supposed to let the kid cry himself to sleep because there is no food? Seriously. I can’t even believe it.
Now, I know I bottle feed, which has allowed me many a jaunt to the mall or even just to the grocery store baby-free. I realize that breastfeeding can make you feel trapped at times (I did breastfeed for awhile, remember?) but seriously, if you commit to being your baby’s food source, I think it’s just freaking selfish to allow your child to go hungry so that you can go out for an extended date or evening away. Not to mention not so fun for the babysitter. I couldn’t even believe the book suggested it! Wow. That’s all I have to say.
Moving on with this eclectic post, I want to see this movie SO BAD!
I read the book some time last year, and it was the freakiest kid’s book I’ve ever read. Neil Gaimen is seriously one of the best authors I think I’ve ever read. He makes me read slowly, which for a chronic speed-reader says quite a bit. I also loved The Graveyard Book, and would seriously recommend it to anyone. Good stuff.

Kayla wanted to see Coraline too, but I put the kabosh on it…it looks scary for kids!
From reading the book, it’s definitely creepy! His newest one, the Graveyard Book, isn’t even as creepy. I think this one strikes to the heart of childlike fears by creating an evil Mommy and Daddy. His stories are like the real fairy tales, the ones where the Little Mermaid feels like she’s walking on knives and where Snow White and Rose Red…well I don’t remember. But I know it was gruesome! I wouldn’t recommend it for kids under 10 or so. But they do package it to look fun for little ones, huh!?
