Getting Bigger

Today and yesterday have been spent working on the “clothing” project. Mostly, I’ve gathered up all maternity wear (even the sweatshirts and things I “think” I can still wear…Clinton and Stacy would have a cow), my nursing bras and “inflationary period” bras, bigger PJ’s and skirts and things, and put them all in those vacuumable space-saver bags you can get at WalMart. I’ve also gathered all of Camper’s 0-6 months things, not only clothes but all the halos and pads that come with swings and car seats and bouncy chairs, and put them away, too. Well…I WILL put them away. Whenever I turn on the vacuum to try and close the bags, Camper freaks out. In the meantime, I’ve found that I can fit into the last of my pants that I was “waiting” to fit into.  There is still some improvement with how they LOOK…but they fit! And that means the last of my “skinny clothes” can come out of hiding.  Now if I could only kick this last 10 lbs…

It’s sad, as I’ve gone through the clothes and things I’ve started to feel like I’m packing up my newborn baby and putting him away.  I couldn’t believe how small some of those clothes were!  I thought he was so big when he was born, 8 lbs 11 oz isn’t a SMALL newborn.  But I found some clothes that were too big for him in the beginning, and now they’re half his length!  They really do just grow, don’t they?  The older age/bigger size comes with perks. For instance, he’s now able to sleep through the night.  I don’t know if was the whole cry it out thing that we finally just did, or if he just realized that he likes to sleep through the night…but it’s not uncommon for him to sleep from 10pm until about 5am these days.  He also goes down a lot better for naps, even SMILES at me and cozies himself into his blanky in his crib after we sing and cuddle.  He’s more hysterical every day, expressive and playful, sometimes surly… and more and more unpredictable all the time.  A lot more “fun” than he was as a newborn.  But still…he was so tiny and beautiful.  I guess I kind of thought he’d stay tiny for longer.

With all that said: it’s advice time.  I’ve recently started to branch out with what we buy for diapers.  I’ve always bought Huggies, and I will continue to do so for the nighttime diapers (SO WORTH IT), but I was given a few different brands by a friend, and recently bought some LUVS.  For anyone who has experimented with different brands, how’d it go?  Do you find that you get what you pay for, or does it not seem to matter?

Also: I need some ideas on coping with Sundays.  My family and I attend church for a three hour block on Sundays, starting at (you guessed it) Camper’s first nap time.  Last Sunday he refused to sleep at ALL, just getting fussier and fussier until he finally became delirious and started laughing at anything and everything.  He was WAY thrown off, and I wonder if there is anything I can do to help?  Changing churches/times is not an option, so how do you deal with weekly disruptions in your schedule?  Do you just sequester yourself in a quiet place and let the baby sleep (they have an entire room with rocking chairs…just for this purpose I’m guessing), or just go with the flow and hope he’ll just pass out when he needs to? I had someone say that I should bring a playpen, set it up in a quiet room and just listen in with a monitor.  Um…no.  I’m not leaving my baby alone in a public building, even if it IS church.

So yes, those are my musings as of late.  Just a little spring cleaning, hanging with my Bubbs, getting ready for some more travels soon.

Well, about the diapers. I have tried almost every brand, every price, every coupon. I do enjoy LUVS because they are so affordable and even though they seem thin they do absorb pretty well haha. My only peeve is the scent they put in them. It makes my boy smell girly. But I have decided to deal with the flowery odor to save some money. Last week they didnt have his size in LUVS so I decided to do what I said I’d never do, buy WalMart brand diapers. I dont know why I thought this was so horrible, but I did. And I love them. They dont have horrible characters that he knows nothing about, a floral scent, or cost an arm and a leg to catch urine and other bodily leaks.

I also just bring Cutter along if I have to go somewhere during nap time. He usually gets excited like he knows he’s up past his bedtime and gets to see what happens when his eyes close. If he gets fussy he’ll usually fall asleep and stay asleep if he’s that tired.

Erin, do you think that Bubs may be thinking you are vaccuming up his stuff? He is pretty smart you know, and the vac does not seem to bother him at other times, maybe cause it is his stuff? Just a thought. And as far as him growing up, he is alot more fun yes, but i miss it when the little ones go from helpless to the “maybe i want you to hold me, maybe i don’t” stage too. Oh yeah and I was thinking of how he freaked at the packing tape, when you were trying to move. Love you all P
