So lately I’ve found myself buying more and more organic foods, just to find things with the smallest amount of scary ingredients. I try to get BPA free toys, and I have NO IDEA what BPA is. All I know: BPA=Bad, DHA=Good. All I know is that if I have a choice between two pacifiers or sippy cups, I should spend the extra $2 to get them to leave the BPA out. Because that shittake is bad, yo.
Anyway.
I was recently contacted by Ecostore USA and invited to test some of their green products. I received the Baby Moisturiser and the Baby Shampoo. To begin, I have to tell you, I am TOTALLY overwhelmed by green stuff. It feels like a slippery slope, once I feel the need (or THE FEAR) and start buying some organic/green products- I am suddenly seized with the desire to throw away all my food/makeup/soap/cleaning products and start again. Except I’m not a millionaire. And I don’t always know the best products to buy.
SO, long story SHORT, I decided to not panic about all the horrible things my baby MIGHT be ingesting and MIGHT NOT be ingesting, and just do things one at a time. I’d try the soap. If I like it, good. If not, we’ll see. I figure being a little green is better than not being green at all…so here are my findings.
Scent: At first I thought the aromatherapy was a bit much. My kid has been alive for 10 months, I don’t think he need therapy of ANY kind. When I first smelled it I thought it was a bit strong, but actually…it leaves the baby smelling nice and fresh and way CLEAN. No poo smell. No cheese smell. No whatever that irresistible puddle was smell. I also felt like the freshness lasted until the next bath, which was necessarily true of my last shampoo and lotion.
Thickness (lotion): Very thick and creamy, not greasy.
Sudsyness (sudsosity?)(shampoo): There were NO SUDS. Now, this may be disappointing to some of you, but the kids who haven’t learned the miracle of the foamy mo-hawk will hardly miss a thing. PLUS, I’m pretty sure that suds are the cause of a lot of our skin’s dryness and issues. So less suds=more natural oils left on the skin, and yet less dirt (and poo, and cheese, and puddle..) My son has really dry skin issues, so I was glad to see that there weren’t tons of suds. (I also felt a little better about him drinking the water.)
Effectiveness: During my testing phase I started with my previous soap, switched to the Ecostore USA brand for one week, then switched back. I’m not going to say the difference was HUGE, but I felt like there was a difference in favor of the Ecostore Brand. He was softer, he smelled waaay nice, and his skin didn’t have the normal rough patches. I guess the peace of mind (you know…lack of toxins…) factors in as well. He was also easily distracted (and therefore, kept happy) by playing with the bottle on the changing table. Any product that keeps my baby interested enough to dissuade kamikaze table rollseeps k my attention. For sure.
Cost: Here’s where it gets tricky. Anyone who reads my blog on a daily basis (or even a weekly basis) knows I’m no millionaire. The green way is always more expensive, but you just have decide how much it’s worth to you. If you’re on a budget, where is the wiggle room? What are you willing to give up or TRADE in order to get the better product? It’s cliche, but true. You get what you pay for.
All in all, I’ve really enjoyed both products. I’d be interested to try this out, as I think it’d last even longer than liquid baby soap. And as a side note, I just (as in JUST NOW) put some of the moisturizer on a bug bite, and WA LA. No more itchy.
Niiiiice.
Definitely worth the money, if you have it. Give it a try!
