It’s a Miracle! Review and Giveaway

*Congrats to Amy Robinson who said:

“This miracle blanket is for my first baby due in 5 weeks. And hopefully I will benefit from the extra sleep the blanket will afford me!*

Are you ready for a flashback?

(um, pictures are broken! looking for them…)

This is a hazy picture from my phone, probably taken at about 2am…when Cy was approximately 1 month old. When he would cry for no reason (no reason = GERD, or colic, or whatever they’re calling it this week) the Miracle Blanket would calm him right down. (It’s the blue one wrapped tightly around his happy, relaxed little body.)

Also, see this picture. We kept a bib over it while feeding him because YOU CANNOT GET THE BLANKET DIRTY. THE BLANKET MUST NOT NEED TO BE WASHED RIGHT NOW. (We eventually bought more, so it was less of a worry.)

For the record, Cy didn’t sleep through the night until he was 1 year old. He slept in two hour spurts until my Sister-in-law sent us The Miracle Blanket, which changed our sleeping habits to OH SO MUCH BETTER. He’d go to sleep for four hours, get up and eat (still snuggled in his blanket, I could even change his diaper with his top half still swaddled!) and go back to bed for four or more hours. He was never a “sleep-through-the-night” baby, but with the Miracle Blanket we got consistent sleep patterns, and that’s all we really needed. I’ve written about this before, and even given one away before, and even though my baby is now 2 years old and sleeping through the night (10 or more hours now) I still feel a burning passion for this well-designed piece of cotton. I credit it with my sanity. And for the good foundation on which we’ve built really good sleep habits for our family. I really really do.

Saying that, I’m running a giveaway! One Miracle Blanket, your choice of color…

To win you must:

1) Find and follow or favorite Miracle Blanket on Facebook and/or Twitter. You’ll need to do this to find out if you won!

2) Leave me a comment letting me know who the Miracle Blanket is for, and who will be benefiting from more sleep!

You’ll get one entry for your comment and one more for following on Twitter/Facebook, and I’m going to let Cy randomly choose the winner. Entries close Monday Nov. 8 at 8pm (his bedtime) and winners will be announced Tuesday Nov. 9th by the Miracle Blanket people via Twitter and Facebook. Keep a close watch because you’ll have to contact them within 24 hours with your contact info and color preferences to claim your prize. (Canada and US only.)

Sleep well, everyone.

Full disclosure: I was paid/given nothing to sponsor this giveaway except the joy of looking through newborn pictures and sifting through happy memories of our swaddling days, and the opportunity to give one of my readers a free blanket. And I’d do it again. These blankets rock that much.

And the green winner of the day is…

Kimba!

Since I had a couple of comments on the site from ME, as well as some random links and people who had to be counted more than once for twitterfollowing…I had to do the put the name in the hat and draw it out thing.  And the winner was Kimba.  Hope the lotion helps you, or if the eczema has passed…something else green and good.

I will email you today with the info on how to use your $25 gift certificate.  Meanwhile, go on over to Ecostore USA and pick out your winnings.

Honestly, after I did the whole review, I went back to the old baby lotion and soap because YO, I’m not MADE OF MONEY.  But my Mom has ended up sitting for me in the last week, and every time she bathed Camper she used the Ecostore stuff.  I saw such a difference.

I think I’m hooked.

Going Green by Accident- A Review and Giveaway

*Scroll down for giveaway info…or just read and you’ll get there…

So lately I’ve found myself buying more and more organic foods, just to find things with the smallest amount of scary ingredients.  I try to get BPA free toys, and I have NO IDEA what BPA is.  All I know: BPA=Bad, DHA=Good.  All I know is that if I have a choice between two pacifiers or sippy cups, I should spend the extra $2 to get them to leave the BPA out.  Because that shittake is bad, yo.

Anyway.

I was recently contacted by Ecostore USA and invited to test some of their green products.  I received the Baby Moisturiser and the Baby Shampoo.  To begin, I have to tell you, I am TOTALLY overwhelmed by green stuff.  It feels like a slippery slope, once I feel the need (or THE FEAR) and start buying some organic/green products- I am suddenly seized with the desire to throw away all my food/makeup/soap/cleaning products and start again.  Except I’m not a millionaire.  And I don’t always know the best products to buy.

SO, long story SHORT, I decided to not panic about all the horrible things my baby MIGHT be ingesting and MIGHT NOT be ingesting, and just do things one at a time.  I’d try the soap.  If I like it, good.  If not, we’ll see.  I figure being a little green is better than not being green at all…so here are my findings.

Scent:  At first I thought the aromatherapy was a bit much.  My kid has been alive for 10 months, I don’t think he need therapy of ANY kind.  When I first smelled it I thought it was a bit strong, but actually…it leaves the baby smelling nice and fresh and way CLEAN.  No poo smell.  No cheese smell.  No whatever that irresistible puddle was smell.  I also felt like the freshness lasted until the next bath, which was necessarily true of my last shampoo and lotion.

Thickness (lotion): Very thick and creamy, not greasy.

Sudsyness (sudsosity?)(shampoo): There were NO SUDS.  Now, this may be disappointing to some of you, but the kids who haven’t learned the miracle of the foamy mo-hawk will hardly miss a thing.  PLUS, I’m pretty sure that suds are the cause of a lot of our skin’s dryness and issues.  So less suds=more natural oils left on the skin, and yet less dirt (and poo, and cheese, and puddle..) My son has really dry skin issues, so I was glad to see that there weren’t tons of suds.  (I also felt a little better about him drinking the water.)

Effectiveness: During my testing phase I started with my previous soap, switched to the Ecostore USA brand for one week, then switched back.  I’m not going to say the difference was HUGE, but I felt like there was a difference in favor of the Ecostore Brand.  He was softer, he smelled waaay nice, and his skin didn’t have the normal rough patches.  I guess the peace of mind (you know…lack of toxins…) factors in as well.  He was also easily distracted (and therefore, kept happy) by playing with the bottle on the changing table.  Any product that keeps my baby interested enough to dissuade kamikaze table rollseeps k my attention.  For sure.

Cost: Here’s where it gets tricky.  Anyone who reads my blog on a daily basis (or even a weekly basis) knows I’m no millionaire.  The green way is always more expensive, but you just have decide how much it’s worth to you.  If you’re on a budget, where is the wiggle room?  What are you willing to give up or TRADE in order to get the better product?  It’s cliche, but true.  You get what you pay for.

All in all, I’ve really enjoyed both products.  I’d be interested to try this out, as I think it’d last even longer than liquid baby soap.  And as a side note, I just (as in JUST NOW) put some of the moisturizer on a bug bite, and WA LA.  No more itchy.

Niiiiice.

Definitely worth the money, if you have it.  Give it a try!

AND, to HELP YOU…
